Data Analyst Specialist

The Achievement School District currently operates twenty-seven schools across the state of Tennessee. We are seeking to hire a Data Analyst Specialist.

Position Overview:

An Achievement School District Data Analyst Specialist is responsible for compiling data from multiple assessments to develop student, subject, grade-level, and school achievement/learning loss profiles. The data analyst specialist will collaborate with schools to conduct training in using data to improve instruction to target academic achievement where learning loss and achievement gaps are present. Important to this role will be the compilation and disaggregation of data that exist as barriers contributing to learning loss and inhibit learning acceleration. The data analyst will analyze, disaggregate, and interpret assessment data as it relates to individual student achievement and the overall performance of all schools, grades K-12. This position will also apply appropriate statistical measurements to data (SPFs calculations), review school and state data to develop comparison trends, and design and develop reports as requested for internal and external stakeholder reporting.

Specific Position Responsibilities:

  • Analyze local, state, and national assessment data as it relates to individual student performance and school improvement focused on data to improve student outcomes.
  • Develop and maintain historical student and school data files to monitor and track performance.
  • Interpret and review assessment data with administrators, teachers, and stakeholders.
  • Compile data from multiple assessments to develop student, subject, grade-level, or school achievement profiles.
  • Work with faculty and staff in schools to conduct training in the use of data to improve instruction to target academic achievement where learning and achievement gaps are present.
  • Ensure the validity of all data presented to staff and stakeholders.
  • Attend, as necessary and appropriate, training sessions/conferences related to assigned responsibilities to effectively use data to inform school improvement initiatives.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Skills Required:

  • Experience in using data processing software and academic data to impact instruction and school strategic planning is required.
  • Ability to explain testing and statistics to administrators, teachers, and parents.
  • Ability to effectively communicate, both in writing and orally, technical information in a way that is understandable to all stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of quality management systems and strategic planning is required.
  • Ability to learn new software and processes as they become available.
  • Self-motivated and able to work in a quick-paced environment.
  • Ability to design and format data files and tables and to modify and update structures as required.
  • Ability to manage daily administrative tasks while maintaining sight of long-term goals and planning.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education or field related AND
  • Two (2) years of data analyst experience OR
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience working with large data sets including data analysis, interpretation, and display.
  • Possess knowledge of the school improvement process preferred.
  • Experience working in turnaround schools preferred.

Salary and Benefits:

We are seeking to hire a Pre-K-5th grade Special Education Specialist and a 6th -12th grade Special Education Specialist.

Position Overview

The Special Education Specialist is responsible for conducting professional development related to decreasing learning loss; providing guidance for carrying out requirements under IDEA; monitoring IEP compliance to ensure schools are assessing students for learning loss and addressing learning acceleration; improving transition services for students with disabilities; and maintaining compliance with special education rules, regulations, and procedures. The special education specialist supports administrators, coaches, teachers, and staff in identifying, developing, and implementing curriculum, assessments, and instructional strategies designed to improve the learning of students with disabilities. The special education specialist will engage parents/families with compliance with special education rules, regulations, and procedures.

Specific Position Responsibilities:

  • Provide professional development, analysis of progress data, and seek out academic instructional strategies
  • Assist special education teachers, school leaders, related service providers, and other stakeholders with the implementation of strategies to improve learning outcomes and address learning loss/learning acceleration for students with disabilities
  • Monitor and support teachers to write effective IEPs to facilitate efficient and effective case conferences as essential tools to accelerate learning and protect the rights of students with disabilities and their families
  • Consistently revisit special education program and service procedures to ensure continuity of services and foresee potential issues
  • Assist with staff development of programs and innovation of special methods and approaches specific to meeting student needs in the special education settings
  • Serve as a liaison with parents and agencies regarding special education laws, procedures, policies, programs, and placement,
  • Monitor legal compliance and data collection,
  • Maintain professional communication with parents, district personnel, and other stakeholders, and
  • Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rules, and local board policies in the areas of assessment, placement, and planning for special education services.
  • Other duties as assigned

Knowledge and Skills Required

  • Experience serving students with disabilities

  • Valid Tennessee Special Education teacher certificate or appropriate Related Service licensure
  • Experience working in turnaround schools preferred

Position Summary:

The Math Instructional Support Specialist is responsible for designing and executing a teaching and learning strategy that rapidly moves students from current levels of performance to significantly higher performance.  The Specialist will serve as a supporter and editor of the curriculum, provider of content-focused professional development for teachers and leaders, and collaborator with school leaders to establish and sustain the Achievement Schools’ vision for excellent, sustainable, neighborhood-responsive schools. The Specialist will also coordinate resource sharing and collaboration across the district’s portfolio of schools.

 Essential Job Functions:

  1. Supports teachers through the development and/or refinement of curriculum and pacing guides.  Ensures that curriculum is aligned to district goals, and TN Academic Standards including identifying skill gaps between grades, thereby ensuring a seamless progression from K through grade 12.
  2. Guides and supports the selection of textbooks, instructional materials, resources, and technology needed to support curriculum implementation.
  3. Monitors implementation of curriculum to support instructional program in schools.
  4. Provides leadership in the development of professional learning activities for principals, content leads, teachers, and support staff to enhance content and pedagogical knowledge.
  5. Interprets data to determine appropriate professional development opportunities for schools and collaborates with content leads to ensure that professional learning opportunities are aligned with data-determined needs.
  6. Works collaboratively with other specialist representatives to achieve a system-wide result.  Formulates local targets, goals, and activities that are in synch with and support the broader goals and objectives of the organization.
  7. Executes the responsibilities according to lawful and ethical standards.  Uses personal judgment and initiative to develop effective and constructive solutions to challenges and obstacles.
  8. Assists in the development of a departmental budget. Presents and defends program budget requirements as it applies to the assigned curriculum area. Oversees and submits program expenditures and prepares financial forms and reports.
  9. Directs the preparation and maintenance of a variety of narrative and statistical reports, records, correspondence, and files related to assigned service, activities, and operations. Provides for appropriate research and compiles reports, as needed. Reviews best practices, recent literature, and research studies and reports. Communicates findings with staff and coordinates changes or modifications to improve existing programs. Applies information/results of research and studies to instructional program.
  10. Uses a system for data collection focused on coaching support for each content lead/school.
  11. Plans and conducts monthly professional development sessions for content teachers.
  12. Shares effective instructional strategies with content leads and teachers both individually and through in-service workshops. Assists with unit and lesson planning, co-observes teachers with content lead, and makes recommendations and assistance for improvement in performance.
  13. Analyzes state and school assessment data to help target professional development needs; designs, plans, and implements school and individual-level professional development opportunities addressing instructional content, curriculum, instructional methods, and assessment in the classroom
  14. Performs other related duties as assigned or directed.

  • Knowledge of current trends, research, and best practices related to specific content area
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to swiftly and accurately understand complex data and perform analysis

  • Experience writing curriculum (and related assessments)
  • Experience presenting professional development to teachers preferred
  • Willingness and comfort with facilitating difficult conversations
  • Ability to lead through influence
