The Achievement School District comprises schools directly run by the district’s staff and a larger subset of schools operated by charter management organizations (CMO) that the district has authorized.

The Achievement School District (ASD) was established as a local education agency within the Tennessee Department of Education by the Tennessee First to the Top Act of 2010. The district’s first cohort of schools officially launching in 2012. The district’s specific function is to serve as an intervention in turning around schools requiring more attention and support to improve student performance.
